Kitchen remodel postponed...New Flooring is Required!

When I woke up Sunday morning I climbed out of bed and staggered to let Oscar outside to potty. As I took the first step down the hall I was suddenly alarmed by water on my foot, I thought Oscar had relieved himself and then I thought, he hasn't done that since Cheyenne so he must be sick. As I took the next step and next my foot was covered over the top with water and I realized Oscar definately had not done this. As we searched for the source we heard continuous water flowing in the kitchen, the sound was coming from the dishwasher. It was still running out! Bryan quickly ran outside to turn off the main power supply. And then the phone calls began...insurance company, home warranty, and of course Papoo and Mom A. This was a total disaster. A large space of carpet is ruined and the kitchen floor is soaked with water coming up through the spaces with each step. So the entire down stairs flooring will be replaced. We could spare the bedrooms but it really wouldn't look right so now we have to decide on materials. Initially we were going to replace everything with hardwoods previous to the disaster now I am thinking tile in the kitchen because this would have ruined wood flooring in the kitchen and hard woods covering the rest. We priced both on Sunday and each are around the same price at 7$ a square foot. We have around 2000 downstairs, you can do the math. Big project that has to be done immediately.
Oh I almost forgot to reveal the culprit, the dishwaster pump busted. Apparently there is a continual line of water going to the dishwasher pump, Who knew??? Well this will give me a reason to get those cool dishwasher drawers that are all the rage now.
FYI the insurance adjuster takes samples and sends them to a lab to determine the amount of damage and the materials in the home. They did reassure us that they don't patch they replace and we have heard great things about USAA, we will see.
