Friday Bake

Last week I made "Strawberry Bars" from the cover of the Better Homes and Garden magazine.  The bar itself was peanut butter based and only topped with Strawberry preserves and real strawberries.  I altered the toppings and used some Raspberry preserves I already had and immediately before serving I sprinkled them with powdered sugar.  This is only half of the recipe, the other half can be frozen for later use.  My opinion of the bars is they are a little dry and not tasty enough to make again.  They are pretty and photograph well... (better on the magazine cover which is what prompted me to make them).

This past Friday evening I made Short Ribs in the slow cooker.  I found a recipe on www.allrecipes.com for German Short Ribs and they were fabulous!  It was a combination of chili sauce, brown sugar, onions, dry mustard, and a few others tasty ingredients.  I served them over homemade mashed potatoes in addition to a few veggies.  Note:  I only peel one baking potato for both Bryan and I and this is plenty and easy.  This recipe I will make again and I am thinking that I am much better at non-sweets but I will keep trying.
